If you’ve just bought a hot tub (or you’re thinking about getting one), it’s important that you understand how to look after and care for it. Hot tubs are great – they provide a place to relax hat’s fun and a bit out of the ordinary, as well as being perfect for parties and other social events! However, they do require some essential maintenance so that they continue to work as well as the day you bought it, as well as keeping it clean and fresh. With this in mind, here’s everything that you need to know to keep your hot tub in tip-top condition!
Circulate the Water
If the water isn’t running through the hot tub’s filter system, then it isn’t being cleaned. Some hot tubs have automatic timers that will start to filter your water automatically around twice a day. However, if yours doesn’t, this is something you need to take care of yourself. We’d recommend that you turn it on for 15-20 minutes twice a day to keep your hot tub fresh and clean and ready for the next use.
Clean, Clean, Clean
Circulating your water will only go so far and by that we mean, you’ll have to clean it yourself too. Oil, biofilm and small pieces of dirt are unable to be trapped by your hot tub’s filter and therefore, you’ll have to clean out these bits of grime and bacteria yourself or use specialised products. Here’s what we’d recommend purchasing:
A General Cleaner
To make sure that your hot tub remains looking as good as new, we’d recommend that you purchase a surface cleaner that will keep your hot tub’s shell sparkling clean. By removing dust, grime and any dirt residue, your hot tub shell will look gleaming in no time!
Filter Cleaner
To make sure that your hot tub’s filter keeps working as efficiently as possible, we’d recommend that you clean it regularly. If the filter becomes too clogged, it will not only make your hot tub even dirtier (due to the dirt not being collected and filtered) but it can even cause the filter to become damaged and break.
Water Clarifier
Some pieces of bacteria and dirt are just too small for your hot tub filter to collect. Therefore, your hot tub’s water can start to become cloudy and dirty – which is something you want to avoid! A cloudy hot tub is definitely not a relaxing place to be and to prevent this from happening, a water clarifier will bind all of the small pieces of dirt together so that they become big enough for your hot tub’s filter system to collect.
UV Protection Spray
Hot tubs are great to use in the summer; however, the UV rays can start to cause your hot tub to look worn and faded. By using a UV protection spray, you can prevent your hot tub from getting any UV damage – keeping your hot tub looking fresh and clean for longer!
pH Testing
It’s important that the pH level of your hot tub is always between 7.4 and 7.6. This makes sure that your hot tub isn’t too acidic or too alkaline, which can either cause aggressive water or a lot of limescale to build up within the hot tub. You can buy pH
