System Cleaners
Your whole hot tub system is a carefully balanced collection of connected parts. Sometimes, this means you'll need to drain and flush your whole hot tub system to keep it working properly. These products will help you keep your spa system running smoothly!
Flushing Your Hot Tub
Your hot tub is a series of complex interconnected systems that all have to work together perfectly. Generally, if one of these systems fails, it will have a knock-on effect on other parts of the tub. This means cleaning out the whole system every now and then is very important. If you’re new to hot tubbing this might get lost among the pH balancing and alkalinity control, but luckily, there are a few products on this page that will help!
How Hot Tubs Work
Hot tubs are full of water which continually cycles around the system. Water is pumped out of the main tub basin through a filter, which picks up bits of dirt and stops them from being cycled back into the tub (sometimes, these particles are too small to be picked up by the filter – this is why you need some spa clarifier). The clean water is then piped back out of your jets into your hot tub in a bubbly stream. This process repeats over and over again, so every now and then pipes get blocked, filters get clogged, and so on. This is nothing to be worried about, though – it’s quite easy to flush your system and keep things running smoothly.
System Cleaning Fluid
Hot tub system cleaning fluid can be dropped into your water and will completely clean your pipes and jet systems. You should use them every time you change your water – the amount of time between water changes depends on the size of your tub (your hot tub manufacturer will have more info on this).
System Flush
System flush is a bit more heavy-duty – it’s designed to completely flush out all the gunk that can accumulate inside your hot tub pipes. Over time, bacteria film and limescale will start to build up inside the pipework, resulting in an unpleasant, sticky residue. Now, your filter will stop this from transferring into your water most of the time, but you should still regularly flush the system in order to protect your filter and prolong its lifespan. The less work your filter has to do, the less you’ll need to clean and maintain it!
Limescale
Limescale is a constant problem with any hot tub, as it is in most water pipes. It builds up more quickly in hard water areas where there are more minerals in the water and can cause blockages and even damage to your spa in severe cases. You can use a limescale cleaning solution to break down any scale inside your tub system to help keep things flowing.
Limescale occurs more commonly after a water change. This is because you’re replacing pH balanced water with new water which may be a different pH level. You can add small amounts of limescale cleaner to your hot tub water for maintenance, or use a larger amount when draining your hot tub for more severe limescale problems.
